Zlatan Ibrahimovic is no stranger to those who love football in the UK or Sweden – or for football enthusiasts worldwide, for that matter! Known as being an exceptional scorer, Ibrahimovic has always been sought after and courted by many clubs throughout his career.
In 2015 the football grapevine had gotten alive with talk about whether Ibrahimovic would be the biggest transfer of the season. The talk was that this impressive player would be playing under Brendan Rodgers in Liverpool. What spurred this flurry of conjecture was the fact that the Swedish player had a fairly strong outburst after a recent game, when he made the statement that France didn’t deserve to a have PSG – Paris Saint Germain. Then the rumours started about how this renowned player may be up for a move to the UK.
The next conjecture was whether Liverpool would be openly receptive to having him. Some felt this would not be a wise move as this player might not team up so well with the coach there.
Eventually, Zlatan ended up joining Manchester United in 2016 and seemed to make the move with a positive approach, stating good reasons for doing so. He considers himself to be a “winner” – and rightly so when looking back on his history as an athlete. He also considered Jose Mourinho to be a winner so he felt right at home with this player. Zlatan was of the opinion that they were perfect matches with the Premier and United League. For Zlatan joining the Old Trafford club seemed to be an easy decision and perhaps one that may lift the stress that was becoming evident during his tenure in France.
What the story of Zlatan in Liverpool goes to show is that once a rumour grabs hold it can cause quite a flurry among the fans.
