Last time the Nevada state surpassed one-billion-dollar mark was in July of 2016. But now in January they revealed the numbers and they made as much as 1,04 billion $. Compared to last year at the same time they hit 925 million dollars. This means that the increase from January this year compared to last year is as high as 12 percent.
Las Vegas Sun managed to get a meeting with Micheal Lawton, a research analyst at the Tax and License Division of Gaming Control Board. He stated that the billion dollar numbers are of course impressive, he also referred to it as a water mark. He also pointed out that it was in July they last hit this kind of number, and he is even happier that this was a little bit higher than in July. And hitting one billion dollars twice in seven months is not a bad feat. When asked about how he thinks they hit these numbers he had a good explanation. He explained that this year the Chinese New year began during the last part of January. And that the leading income increase was actually from the baccarat. The wins were up as much as 55 percent compared to the same period last year. Big numbers for a game that has not seen an heavy increase in the last 25 months. According to Lawton they have only recorded five increases the last 25 months.
The biggest increase was of course seen in Las Vegas, there the revenue increase by as much as 32 percent compared to last year. And when taking into consideration that the New year was during a weekend and not weekdays means a larger attraction of people.
The casinos have been heavily criticized especially those in Vegas for making the games appear as fun. With free alcoholic beverage while gambling for some seems as a low moral state. And not a clear judgement when there are so much on the table seems unfair. But the State can´t complain so much since they collected more than 75 million dollars in fees last year this time. This year it is up to more than 81 million dollars. A boost that the tax may not complain about.
